RFID Solutions for Utility Object Location and Identification
DeTex is a recently formed company located in eastern North Carolina who is developing and marketing a patented technique for applying RFID technology the problem of maintaining and servicing outside plant utility objects such as telephone and cable pedestals, transformers, and junction boxes.
The primary objective of the system is to allow the detection and positive identification of outside plant devices and enclosures to prevent their damage during mowing and clearing operations on the right-of-way and to provide service personnel a better means of finding junction boxes and pedestals when service is required.
Telephone pedestals and fiber junction boxes located in more rural areas and off-road right-of-ways are quickly and thoroughly obscured by undergrowth and dense vegetation. When the time comes for maintenance cutting or mowing they are nearly impossible to locate and are often destroyed by brush cutters. DeTex equipment can be mounted directly on heavy equipment to provide immediate detection and avoidance of pedestals, transformers, valves protecting them from damage or destruction.
